Technical Recovery Claims Handler (Motor)

We’re on a mission to make migration easy.

We started building Marshmallow in 2017. Since then, we’ve grown from 3 to 700+ people, gained unicorn status, raised ~£140M over three funding rounds, turned profitable, insured millions of drivers and lent millions in car loans.

But we’re only just getting started. Our goal is to become one of the largest financial services providers in the world. Over the next 10 years we’ll grow exponentially, not only by scaling our existing products, but also by building new ones.

To achieve our goals we need incredibly ambitious, commercially driven people who never settle for ‘good enough’. Marshmallowers are hungry for autonomy and ownership, and would rather improve than coast. Everyone raises standards and has an impact, with a focus on collective success over self-interest.

We’ve created an environment where curious, tenacious people win and grow together. If that sounds motivating, this could be the place for you.

The Claims Team

Most claims teams move slowly. Processes, sign-offs, and outdated systems get in the way of good decisions. At Marshmallow, we move faster. We’re commercially strong, tech-powered, and built to give claims experts the tools, insight, and freedom to make sharper calls for customers.

We look for people with deep expertise who are restless for a better way of working. If you’ve ever felt held back by bureaucracy, you’ll find the autonomy, pace, and stretch at Marshmallow that let you do your best work — and keep learning as you go.

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced and resourceful Technical Subrogation Handler to join our evolving Recoveries team. In this role, you will lead liability assessments from the outset, using evidence, case law, and negotiation expertise to achieve the best financial recovery outcomes.
At Marshmallow, our Recoveries team is proactive. We develop our own view on liability early, refining it through evidence and supporting our position through persuasive negotiation and case law.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who brings strong experience in subrogated recoveries, a solid grasp of litigation, and the ability to work effectively both on their own initiative and as part of a supportive, collaborative team.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing your own caseload of split liability and non-fault recovery claims to deliver strong outcomes.

  • Assessing liability early by reviewing evidence, applying case law and shaping the best recovery strategy.

  • Negotiating with third party insurers and representatives to maximise recovery and resolve disputes.

  • Preparing clear allegation and outlay packs to support in-house handling or referral to panel solicitors.

  • Driving improvements that reduce claim lifecycles, lower costs and protect the customer journey.

Your expertise

  • Experience handling subrogated recovery claims across non-fault and split liability cases.

  • Experience making liability decisions using evidence and relevant case law.

  • Experience negotiating liability and quantum with third party insurers or representatives.

  • Understanding of the recovery journey, including when to keep claims in-house and when to involve panel solicitors.

Who you are

  • You make confident decisions and know when a case needs a second opinion.

  • You work well with autonomy and keep quality high without close supervision.

  • You adapt quickly when priorities, processes or case details change.

  • You look beyond your own caseload and push for better ways of working across the team.

Perks of the job

  • Bonus scheme designed to reward high performance

  • Private medical insurance with Vitality, mental health support with Oliva

  • Personal learning budget and 2 dedicated L&D days a year

  • Monthly flexible benefits budget to spend as you choose

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

  • 4 weeks Work From Anywhere per year

Our process

  • We break it up into 3 stages:

    • A video interview with someone from our TA Team (30 mins)

    • A skill-based task interview with two members of our Claims team (1 hour)

    • A culture interview (1 hour)

We’ll let you know if you’re invited to an interview or not. But, as a small team with a lot of applications to consider, we can’t give individual feedback on each application.

We are not in a position to offer sponsorship and/or a visa for this position.
