Freelance Field Researcher – Village Solid Waste Management & Treatment Plant Assessment

· Support waste characterization studies, biomass availability assessments, and feasibility evaluations for biogas and energy generation.

· Document existing waste management systems, environmental impacts, and community practices in selected villages.

· Generate reliable field data to support design, simulation, prototype development, and performance evaluation of village-level solid waste treatment systems.

· Master's degree (preferred) in: Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Waste Management, Renewable Energy, Rural Development and Sustainability Studies

· Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and significant field experience in waste management, environmental surveys, or rural infrastructure projects may also be considered.

· GIS tools (QGIS/ArcGIS) – preferred.

· Basic statistical analysis and report preparation.

· Familiarity with waste quantification and characterization methods.

· 1–3 years of field survey experience in: Solid waste management, Environmental monitoring and Rural infrastructure assessment

· Experience in village-level surveys, waste audits, sanitation assessments, or biomass resource assessment is preferred.

· Understanding of: Municipal and village solid waste management systems, Waste segregation and characterization methods, Composting, vermicomposting, biomethanation, RDF, and waste-to-energy technologies, Environmental impacts of improper waste disposal & Biogas generation and renewable energy concepts

· Ability to: Conduct household and community surveys, Measure and record waste quantities and composition, Maintain field records and databases & Document waste handling practices and treatment infrastructure

· Knowledge of: Solid Waste Management Rules and environmental regulations, Sustainable waste treatment practices & Community participation and awareness programs

· Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.

· Waste Generation Assessment: Conduct household, institutional, and community-level surveys to estimate solid waste generation rates.

· Waste Characterization Study: Categorize waste into: Biodegradable waste, Recyclable waste, Inert waste, Hazardous waste. Record percentage composition and potential resource recovery opportunities.

· Existing System Assessment: Assess current collection, transportation, segregation, treatment, and disposal systems. Identify operational gaps and environmental concerns.

· Biomass and Energy Potential Assessment: Evaluate biodegradable waste availability for composting and biomethanation. Support estimation of: Biogas generation potential, Energy recovery potential, Organic manure production potential

· Environmental Assessment: Document environmental issues associated with current waste disposal practices, including Open dumping, Water pollution, Air pollution, Odour problems and public health concerns

· Design & Prototype Support: Provide field inputs required for: Treatment plant sizing, Process selection, Prototype development and System design validation.
