Respiratory Therapist

Resurrection Medical Center, a leading healthcare facility in Chicago, IL, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join its Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this patient-centered role, you will provide comprehensive respiratory care to adult and, as applicable, pediatric and neonatal patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members, you will assess, plan, and deliver evidence-based respiratory treatments and therapies in alignment with individualized care plans and established clinical protocols.

Key responsibilities include performing respiratory assessments, administering and monitoring oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, and other therapeutic interventions, as well as managing and troubleshooting ventilators and other advanced life-support equipment in both critical care and general care settings. You will respond promptly to emergency situations such as rapid responses and codes, assisting with airway management, intubation support, and resuscitation efforts, while maintaining composure and sound clinical judgment in high-pressure environments.

The Respiratory Therapist will interpret and analyze diagnostic tests and procedures, such as arterial blood gases, pulmonary function tests, and pulse oximetry, adjusting treatment plans based on patient status and provider orders. Accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, patient responses, and education in the electronic medical record is essential to support continuity of care and regulatory compliance. You will participate actively in interdisciplinary rounds, communicate clearly with patients and families about respiratory therapies and home-care strategies, and promote patient understanding and adherence to treatment plans.

Aligned with the culture of compassion, teamwork, and integrity at Resurrection Medical Center, this role requires a strong commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes, and respectful, culturally sensitive care. You will contribute to process improvement and clinical quality initiatives, follow infection prevention and equipment maintenance standards, and help ensure that respiratory care services meet or exceed organizational and regulatory expectations. The position offers the opportunity to grow professionally through ongoing education, competency development, and exposure to a diverse patient population, while collaborating closely with a supportive healthcare team dedicated to advancing community health.

Candidates should bring solid clinical skills in respiratory care, familiarity with current respiratory care guidelines and best practices, and the ability to prioritize and manage a dynamic workload. Strong critical-thinking, communication, and teamwork abilities are essential, as is the flexibility to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, in a primarily on-site clinical environment.

Joining Resurrection Medical

Center as a Respiratory Therapist means becoming part of an innovative, mission-driven organization where your expertise directly contributes to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families across the Chicago community.
