Job Summary

Progressive Technology is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Transcriptionist / Medical Coder to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for professionals who are passionate about healthcare documentation and medical coding, and are looking to work in a dynamic, fast-paced remote environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately transcribing medical reports and assigning correct codes for diagnoses and procedures to support healthcare billing and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately transcribe audio recordings of physician notes, consultations, discharge summaries, and other medical reports.

  • Apply correct medical codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) based on documentation for billing and reporting purposes.

  • Review and verify patient data for completeness and accuracy.

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards (HIPAA).

  • Communicate with healthcare professionals to clarify information or obtain additional details when necessary.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems, and industry best practices.

  • Meet daily productivity targets and quality assurance benchmarks.

  • Organize and maintain digital records and ensure timely submission of completed reports.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in health information management or medical transcription/coding preferred.

  • Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, or CCA) and/or medical transcription.

  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

  • Proficient typing speed with a high level of accuracy.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with EHR systems and medical transcription software.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical transcription or medical coding in a clinical or hospital setting.

  • Experience with coding for multiple specialties is a plus.

Working Hours

  • Flexible working hours with the expectation of meeting daily/weekly deliverables.

  • Remote position – work from the comfort of your home.
