Position Overview

Ho-Ho-Kus Public School invites applications from passionate, knowledgeable, and student-
focused educators for a Full-Time Tenure Track Middle School Science Teacher position serving

students in Grades 6–8. The ideal candidate will bring a strong command of science content,
enthusiasm for hands-on and inquiry-based learning, and a commitment to preparing students for

high school science and beyond. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and high-
performing faculty in a supportive, community-oriented school.

Location: Ho-Ho-Kus Public School, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ
Reports To: Principal
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, prepare, and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned science instruction aligned to the
New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for Science and Next Generation
Science Standards (NGSS).
• Design and facilitate hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory experiences that promote
scientific thinking, experimentation, and data analysis.
• Teach across multiple grade levels (6–8) in content areas that may include Life Science,
Earth Science, Physical Science, and/or Integrated Science, depending on assignment.
• Foster a classroom culture of curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific literacy.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with
IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners.
• Assess student understanding through a variety of formative and summative assessments;
use data to guide instructional decisions.
• Maintain a safe and orderly laboratory environment in full compliance with school safety
protocols and regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, lab safety agreements, and
performance data.
• Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, guardians, and support staff
regarding student progress.

• Collaborate with grade-level teams, the science department, and building specialists as a
committed member of the professional learning community.
• Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum development, and school-wide professional
development activities.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Principal in accordance with district policy.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Valid New Jersey Standard Certificate in Science (Grades 5–8 or 6–12 Science).
• Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, or a
related field required; Master's degree preferred.
• Strong content knowledge in one or more science disciplines at the middle school level.

• Familiarity with NGSS and the NJSLS for Science; experience implementing inquiry-
based and phenomenon-driven instruction preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to design and manage safe, engaging laboratory experiences.
• Effective classroom management skills and ability to build positive, professional
relationships with middle school students.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with educational technology; experience with Google Workspace for
Education preferred.
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth, collaboration, and reflective practice.
• Prior student teaching or classroom experience at the middle school level preferred.
