Integration Lead

This a Full Remote job, the offer is available from: California (USA)

Stellic is growing! We're looking for an Integration Lead to own the systems that connect university Student Information Systems to Stellic. This is mission-critical infrastructure where data correctness and reliability directly affect everything our product does — and we need a technical leader to drive our integration architecture into its next phase.

ABOUT US

We're building a future where every student can move through their education with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Our platform transforms the student experience, giving them the tools they need to make the right decisions about their degree plans, track their journey, and build an education and career path that's truly their own.

Stellic is a fast-growing startup backed by leading social impact investors, partnering with top institutions like Cornell, Columbia, UVA, and Ohio State to support over 1 million students across 7 countries. As we scale to serve more universities worldwide, we remain deeply committed to this mission, driven by our values, and committed to building a high-performance team that's here to make a lasting difference on both students' lives and higher education.

STELLIC ENGINEERS

Stellic engineers combine a rare blend of curiosity, creativity, and business acumen with the ability to deliver pragmatic solutions at high velocity with uncompromising quality. Our mission is to help students, and our engineers always have that in mind as they are building.

THE INTEGRATION TEAM

The Integration team is responsible for the critical bridge between university Student Information Systems (SIS) and Stellic. This integration layer is foundational to ensuring that Stellic's data remains accurate, up-to-date, and trustworthy. The team owns the systems that power this bridge end-to-end, including integration pipelines, data models, and the interfaces that expose external data across the product. This requires navigating a wide range of external systems, each with its own complexity and nuances, and translating that into standardized, coherent internal representations that the rest of the product can rely on.

The team is also responsible for evolving Stellic's integration approach, consolidating multiple legacy patterns into a new, well-defined standard that will support future scale and product development.

As a technical lead on Integration, you will play a central role in shaping how external data flows through Stellic, with direct impact on the reliability and trustworthiness of the entire platform.

ABOUT YOU

You've designed and operated high-reliability integration systems before, and you know what it takes to build for data correctness at scale — fault-tolerant, observable, and easy to debug when something goes wrong. You bring strong judgment to defining standards and patterns, and you know how to make complex, messy external systems fit cleanly into a coherent internal model.

AS OUR INTEGRATION LEAD, YOU WILL OWN

  • SIS integration systems, end to end: Own the technical direction and evolution of the systems that bridge university Student Information Systems and Stellic — including integration pipelines, data models, and the interfaces that expose external data across the product.

  • A new integration standard: Define and drive the adoption of a consolidated integration architecture, replacing multiple legacy patterns with a consistent, scalable approach that will support Stellic's next phase of growth.

  • Data correctness and reliability: Ensure systems are fault-tolerant, observable, and easy to debug, with clear guarantees around data integrity and behavior across a wide range of heterogeneous external data sources.

  • External system complexity: Design systems that reliably handle varied SIS environments while maintaining clean, well-defined internal representations the rest of the product can depend on.

  • Engineering excellence: Drive engineering excellence by defining and mentoring on best practices, design patterns, and code quality across the team.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU SHOULD HAVE

  • 8+ years of backend engineering experience operating at scale, with a track record of leading complex implementations as a technical lead

  • Background designing and operating high-reliability integration systems with strong guarantees around data correctness

  • Expertise building fault-tolerant, observable systems that are easy to debug in production

  • Experience working with complex external systems and translating them into clean, well-defined internal models

  • Strong judgment in defining and evolving integration standards and patterns across a codebase

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and database optimization (PostgreSQL a plus)

  • Comfort with asynchronous / event-based architectures

  • Clear and effective communication skills for collaborating with product, design, and customer-facing teams

  • Deep curiosity, customer empathy, and commitment to engineering as a craft

OUR CURRENT TECH STACK

While we plan on introducing new technologies and capabilities, and potentially migrating away from current ones, here is the general shape of our current stack:

  • Languages: Python, SQL

  • Frameworks: Django, Angular, React, Remix

  • Databases: PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Redis

  • Version control: Git (GitHub)

  • Cloud: AWS

  • Deployment: AWS CodeDeploy

  • Observability & Analytics: Sentry, Grafana, Prometheus, PostHog, Metabase

  • Both single and multi-tenant architecture

WHY YOU'LL LOVE WORKING AT STELLIC

  • Shape the future of higher education at a company leading the transformation of student success.

  • Work alongside an ambitious, mission-driven leadership team building something meaningful.

  • Own a piece of the journey with competitive salary, meaningful equity and a culture of excellence, speed and ownership.

  • Thrive in a flexible, outcome-driven culture built on trust and autonomy.

  • Exceptional benefits, including health insurance with Stellic covering 99% of your premium and 75% for dependents.

  • 401(k), commuter benefits, and annual international retreats in incredible locations.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

The day I watched Marie Forleo's film separating the important from the urgent, my life changed. Not all remote jobs start fast, but most of them are...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
