Chief of Staff, R&D

This a Full Remote job, the offer is available from: United States

Ready to be a Titan?

The Chief of Staff, R&D is a high-impact, strategic partner embedded at the heart of ServiceTitan's Research & Development organization. This role is a force multiplier for the Chief Technology and Product Officer, and the broader R&D leadership team - accelerating decision-making, driving operational excellence, and ensuring the organization is focused on the right problems at the right time.

This is not a support role. It's a seat at the table. The Chief of Staff, R&D acts as an extension of the CTPO - helping shape priorities, orchestrate cross-functional work, and translate strategy into execution across Engineering, Product, Design, Data, and Information Security.

Why This Role

The R&D org at ServiceTitan is the engine of the company - we build the platform that powers the trades, an industry that keeps homes running and businesses growing. This role sits at the center of that engine, with visibility into everything from long-range product strategy to how we hire and develop world-class talent. If you want scope, impact, and the opportunity to help shape one of the most important organizations at ServiceTitan - this is it.

What you'll do:

Strategic Partner to the Head of R&D Serve as a thought partner and trusted advisor to the Head of R&D - helping shape priorities, prepare for key decisions, and drive alignment across the organization. Represent R&D leadership in cross-functional forums, escalations, and strategic initiatives as needed. Proactively surface high-impact opportunities to improve business processes across both the R&D org and the company as a whole.

R&D Operating Rhythm & Execution Own the operational cadence of the R&D org: leadership team meetings, quarterly planning cycles, OKR tracking, roadmap reviews, and all-hands. Design and continuously improve the processes that keep teams aligned, accountable, and unblocked. Ensure decisions are captured, owners are assigned, and follow-through actually happens.

Cross-Functional Connector Act as the primary connective tissue between R&D and the rest of the business - Finance, People Ops, GTM, and Corporate Engineering. Partner with other Chiefs of Staff and functional leaders to ensure cross-organizational alignment. Facilitate cross-functional initiatives, surface dependencies early, and ensure R&D's priorities and progress are clearly communicated company-wide.

Insights & Business Health Maintain clear dashboards and narrative updates so R&D leaders see progress, risks, and trade-offs in one place. Stay on top of the metrics that matter most: engineering velocity, product delivery, headcount and capacity, and investment allocation. Translate data into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.

Strategic Programs & Special Projects Lead high-priority, often ambiguous initiatives that don't fit neatly into an existing team's charter - from org design to M&A diligence support to new capability buildout. Operate at a tactical, strategic, and operational level, handling oversight of projects that fall between departments or leadership areas of responsibility.

Communications & Executive Presence Draft and own key R&D communications including executive memos, board and investor materials, all-hands content, and internal updates. Ensure the Head of R&D is well-prepared for every meeting - with the right context, pre-reads, and follow-up. Maintain transparency and alignment across the organization.

Talent & Culture Champion Partner with People Ops and R&D leadership on hiring strategy, onboarding, performance cycles, and culture initiatives. Help build the high-emotional-intelligence environment where great engineers and product builders do the best work of their careers.

What you'll bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in strategy, operations, management consulting, or a Chief of Staff / Senior Program Management role within a high-growth SaaS or technology company

  • At least 3 years in a Chief of Staff, Senior Program Manager, or equivalent strategic operational role working directly with VP-level or above leadership

  • Deep fluency in how R&D organizations work - you understand the product development lifecycle, engineering org structures, and the relationship between roadmap, resourcing, and business outcomes

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen - you can build a model, read a P&L, and translate numbers into a story that drives decisions

  • Exceptional communication and executive presence - you write clearly, present confidently, and know how to tailor a message for a CTO, an IC engineer, or a board member

  • A pragmatic driver mentality - you can dig into technical details, thoughtfully question approaches for efficiency, and move quickly without sacrificing quality

  • Operational horsepower - you love building process where there is none, and simplifying process where there's too much; passion for scalable systems in a high-growth, constantly changing environment

  • High emotional intelligence - you build strong, trusted relationships across all levels of an organization, and you earn influence, not authority

  • Comfort with ambiguity - you seamlessly shift between strategic planning and operational problem-solving, and you bring calm to fast-moving, complex environments

  • B2B SaaS experience strongly preferred; familiarity with program/project management methodologies (Agile, PMP, CSM) a plus

  • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred
